almondsLots of folks out there choose not to drink dairy milk for many reasons from health to personal beliefs. For me, it is health if we had a farm where the milk came straight from the cow, and I knew it was pure, then I might reconsider but for now I am non-dairy kind of gal. But as some of you have found out finding healthy alternatives can be just as daunting. Yup, because as usual companies see a niche and produce inferior products with just as many chemicals or preservatives as mainstream products. So whats a person to do? No problem we have you covered, well actually Meg from Whats Up Moms does.

Homemade Almond Milk in 3 Easy Steps

1 cup whole raw almonds
3.5 cups filtered water (plus more water for soaking)
1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional)
1/2 tsp vanilla (optional)

1) Cover almonds in water and soak at least 8 hours, preferably overnight. (or cover in boiling water and soak for an hour)

2) Drain almonds, add to blender. Add 3.5 cups filtered water and blend for about 1 minute, until almonds are finely blended.

3) Strain in nut bag, jelly strainer or fine mesh sieve.

4) Stir in flavors if desired. Refrigerate and enjoy within 3 days.
