Peppermint is known for soothing digestion. (1) Scientists have researched its effects on the liver and respiratory system, its ability to improve concentration, and mental accuracy. (1) The aroma of peppermint is purifying and stimulating for the mind and makes a great natural pick-me-up. (1) Just one drop of peppermint oil to herbal tea (with agave or honey to emulsify/blend the oil and the tea) can help aid digestion and relieve heartburn. Not only do we have a recipe for peppermint tea, today, we also have a few other ideas on how to use peppermint essential oils to ease certain tummy issues.
Before we get to the herbal tea recipe, did you know that if you rub 4 drops of peppermint oil on your chest and stomach, it may help relieve travel sickness? (1) If you massage several drops of peppermint oil on the abdomen, or place 2 to 3 drops in your hands and gently rub them together, you can then cup your palms and inhale deeply to relieve nausea. (1) You can even place 4 to 6 drops of peppermint oil in the palm of your hand and rub over your stomach (and around the naval) to relieve gas and diarrhea. (1) Now, lets get back to that peppermint tea recipe, shall we?
- 1 C Water
- 1 to 2 T Peppermint Leaves (or 1 Drop of Peppermint Oil)
- Optional honey, to taste
- For a Cold Brew put ingredients in glass pitcher overnight and strain the next morning.
- For a Hot Infusion Boil water then reduce heat to a simmer. Add Peppermint and let sit for 8 to 15 minutes. Strain.
